Lifelong friends

Oh Carol, your first 45, with Callendar Girl, weve known each other since we used to be pushed in the same pram, up to Waterlooville from Stakes, our mums taking turns pushing us up the hills. Both our families moved from Stakes to Forest End in about 1950, your house at the end of our garden, then both families moved to Anmore Road, Denmead, in bungalows joined to each other in 1957. After our first day at the new school we decided we didnt like Moggie, our teacher, and we played hookie the next day and went round to my aunts in Barn Green, boy, did we get into trouble! We both went to Cowplain Secondary Modern for girls when we reached 11, travelling by bus until they built the Berg Estate then we had to cycle. Safe to say that a lot of the time you were off the bike, having run into something or fallen off!
On leaving school i worked in an office at Wadhams and you were an apprentice hairdresser. You actually used me sometimes for your competitions.

We used to go to shows at the Guildhall sometimes, Gerry & the Pacemakers, Cilla, Del Shannon, Walker Bros to name a few and of course The Beatles, at The Savoy i think, no screaming back then, you could actually hear them sing! Once my family moved back to Waterlooville we didnt go about so much but once you married Ray we often came to visit. Hadn’t actually seen you for some time until you FaceTimed me about Pete, sad news, but bluntly put, as always Carol! Still can’t believe that you won’t be catching me up this year, always bragging i was older than you, even if it was only for one month! Will miss your posts on Facebook and seeing pics of your family. Goodbye my old friend, say hello to Ray for me!
